Seed Loss Calculator
A mobile app that allows farmers to estimate yield loss before and during harvest by recording the number of individual seeds found on the ground in a square foot. With this information, the app can calculate the number of bushels farmers have lost per acre.
App users can also enter crop prices to determine how much money is lying on a harvest loss per acre basis.
The Problem
Harvest losses affect profit from grain and bean production. Harvest losses of 10 percent or more are not unusual, but they should be in the 2 to 4 percent range. The farmer needs to check losses regularly, but these calculations are difficult and require help from qualified and expensive agronomists.
